The True Meaning of "I Can't Give You What You Want" by Psychic Arthur

Is he using you or just being honest?

Is he using you or just being honest?

Cindy and Rick have been going out for about two months. As far as Cindy’s concerned everything has been wonderful. That is, until Rick sat her down and told her, “I can’t give you what you want. I can’t be the man you need me to be.”

Shocked, Cindy replied, “Oh, don’t be silly. Of course you give me what I want. I love you. I’m really not asking for anything.”
After several attempts at trying to get him to change his mind, Rick told Cindy that he was sorry, but that he was unable to continue seeing her. Cindy later told a friend, “I think he used me!”

What just happened??

When a guy says something like, “I can’t give you what you want,” or “I can’t be the man you need me to be,” what he actually means is exactly what he’s saying. To him, it’s not an opinion—it’s fact. In other words: “I can’t give you what you want. I am not able, nor am I ready to give you what you want. Stop waiting for me to come around and move on.”

That’s it. There’s no great mystery to be solved. A guy means exactly what he’s saying. And his feelings in most cases have nothing or little to do with the relationship; it’s just where he happens to be in his life: emotionally unavailable.

So, when a guy says something like this, it’s time to get out of the relationship and move on.

If not, the woman eventually puts her needs on hold to be with the guy in hopes that he’ll change his mind (which he rarely does).
A decent guy (like Rick) will be honest and move on, while the not so decent guy will allow the situation to continue, but on his own terms. This kind of guy has the best of both worlds while using the woman’s mistaken feelings of hope to his advantage. As far as he’s concerned, she’s not “the one,” but what kind of guy passes up a friends-with-benefits situation? And if the woman starts feeling resentful and complains, his default response is: “I enjoy sleeping with you, but I told you I couldn’t give you what you wanted. It’s not my fault you decided to stay.”

So, the moral of the story: If a guy says, “I can’t give you what you want,” or “I can’t be the man you need me to be,” don’t look for some hidden meaning where none exists. What he says is what he means and it’s time to move on. It’s better to suffer the short-term pain of a love lost than endless months of uncertainty, hopelessness, and despair.
